The capital of one of the most developed countries in the world boasts a wide selection of hotels to suit everyone's needs and preferences. Regardless of whether you are visiting on business or pleasure, you will find the ideal hotel.
The city is very large and split into a number of different districts. Where you stay will depend on what you want to see and do and also how much you have to spend on a hotel room. The Hilton Washington and Omni Shoreham are two hotels which are located on the hill looking over Dupont Circle and offer luxury, extensive facilities and beautiful views while the Renaissance Mayflower in downtown has seen Franklin Roosevelt and J Edgar Hoover stay here.
If you want to be in the heart of the city, downtown Washington has something for everyone. There are two parts to downtown: north of the Whitehouse and east of the Whitehouse. Staying north will allow you to choose from some of the oldest, most impressive and most expensive hotels in the city. Heads of state often stay in the lavish Loews Hotel or for something different, the St Regis Hotel is a majestic mansion complete with priceless antiques. If it is a view of the Whitehouse you are after, no hotel boasts as good a view as the Hay-Adams.
East of the White House you will find a number of modern hotels which offer absolute luxury. The Willard Intercontinental is popular with those who have do not have an enormous budget but are looking for pure indulgence and the Marriott and Grand Hyatt are two more well-known names offering class, style and excellent facilities. There are not many cheap hotels in this area although the Lincoln Suites and Topaz both offer good facilities for a reasonable price.
Dupont Circle is the place to stay if you are after a lively nightlife and countless dining and shopping opportunities. The hotels in this area are generally modern luxury hotels with good facilities and excellent central locations. The Hilton and Embassy Suites are two examples of top class hotels and will suit those looking for a relaxed environment for their stay.
Many hotels in Georgetown replicate the historic character of the neighbourhood, boasting a colonial air about them. Georgetown Suites and the Georgetown Inn are close to the heart of this district and are luxurious while for something more intimate, the Latham is small, friendly and beautifully designed. The opulent Four Seasons is popular with affluent visitors for its beautiful décor and excellent service.
Foggy Bottom, found next door to Georgetown, is home to a number of cheaper establishments. The George Washington University Inn is popular with those on a tighter budget and the Watergate Hotel often has excellent deals which while may not be the cheapest around, offer the best value for money. Other cheaper lodgings can be found outside of the city centre in Capitol Hill. L'Enfant Plaza Hotel offers nice rooms at a reasonable rate and the Channel Inn is scenically located on the river.
