Lausanne - Switzerland

Due to Lausanne's compact size, virtually all hotels of every standard are well located. There are large chain hotels located next to quaint little bed and breakfasts which are opposite five-star luxury establishments. The choice of accommodation is great, covering every taste and budget. The main clusters of hotels are found in the Old Town and overlooking Lake Geneva.

The most popular hotels can be found in the Old Town as well as on the banks of Lake Geneva and in the surrounding mountains. The luxurious Beau-Rivage Palace offers one of the best views across the city and was recently voted Swiss Hotel of the Year. It boasts extensive facilities as well as beautiful views across the lake and is minutes away from the centre of town but ocated in a secluded area.

The centrally located, five-star Lausanne Palace and Spa boasts not only spa facilities, but also a business suite, conference facilities, a number of restaurants and excellent service. Both this hotel and the Beau-Rivage Palace are among the best in the world.

For something less expensive and elite, you will find a number of four-star establishments throughout the city. While these are slightly more basic, they still offer excellent facilities and are all very comfortable. La Résidence Hotel is situated on the lake front and is regarded as being the best four-star hotel in Lausanne.

The Mövenpick Ouchy is also on the lake front and is popular with families, boasting scenic views and good facilities. The Victoria is another family favourite which is centrally located and within walking distance of many sights.

The Old Town is also home to many of the city's budget accommodation options such as hostels and guest houses. However, they are not as cheap as you may expect and the standard of service and facilities is far better than in lots of budget establishments throughout Europe. There is no such thing as very cheap accommodation in Lausanne as the town does not generally attract people who are on a tight budget.

There are many good quality hotels located near to the railway station, which is very central and ideally located for those who want to see the surrounding districts for a day. The Continental Swiss Q Hotel is one of the most favoured in this area.

If you are arriving in the winter months, you will find ski resorts in the mountains offering very nice accommodation options. There is everything from chalets to five-star resorts, all of which have stunning views, beautiful grounds and an abundance of facilities on offer. Some of the most popular include Hostellerie Les Chevreuils and the three-star Hotel Inter Europe.
