Stockholm's hotels are in general very expensive in comparison with the rest of the world, but in line with a Scandinavian capital city. The best hotels in the most interesting parts of the city are particularly steep but well worth the cost and many places offer weekend discounts.
Choices of where to stay in Stockholm are good owing to the watery makeup of the city and interesting waterfront hotels. Stockholm has many fantastic upscale hotels in nice spots, like the heart of Gamla Stan (the old town) near the city's historic attractions. There are several Radisson SAS hotels in town, with the Radisson SAS Strand Hotel at the waterfront and the Radisson SAS Royal Viking Hotel in the old town.
The all-Swedish Berns Hotel is another exclusive Stockholm hotel with tasteful décor, excellent service and all amenities. This hotel also has several quality bars and restaurants. Other top hotel options in Stockholm include the Scandic Sergel Plaza (Siggie's Castle), a great family hotel; Hotel Tegnérlunden; and the Sheraton Stockholm Hotel & Towers, also suitable for families.
The old town of Gamla Stan in the heart of Stockholm is without a doubt the best place to stay in town. It boasts some of the finest hotels in Scandinavia, like the Radisson Royal Viking, and is also nice and close to all the main attractions. Gamla Stan also happens to be an island so views of the water are pretty much ubiquitous with the best hotels.
Norrmalm is another popular hotel area in the Swedish capital. It is located just to the north of Gamla Stan and has several upper-end hotels yet most tend to be mid-range.
For cheaper Stockholm hotels and a bit more oomph, the Central Station is a good bet. There are loads of shops, restaurants and bars in this area and transport options are also good. The Nordic Light Hotel is a popular hotel here.
Out at Arlanda Airport, Sweden's main transport hub, there are a number of useful hotels for business types. The Radisson SAS Skycity Hotel is located onsite at the airport and comes with all modern facilities including conference rooms, restaurants, and bars. Yet another Radisson, the Radisson SAS Arlanda, is also near the airport, while the Ibis and Nova Park hotels here are cheaper options.
Those flying into Stockholm's other main airport, Skavsta Airport, also have a good choice of quality hotels. The Park Inn Nyköping is a popular business hotel that comes with free shuttle access and good facilities.
