Warsaw today enjoys a reputation as an emergent city, relatively young by European standards, but home to fabulous palaces and castles, theatre, art and music. A cultured city which has grown from the wreckage of WWII, when it was almost entirely destroyed, Warsaw nowadays offers fine hotels, great restaurants and fascinating cultural highlights.
One of the city's most popular places to stay is the Old Town, Starowka, which is home to the famous Royal Castle, the Copper Roof Palace and numerous beautiful churches. This part of town is home to many different styles of hotel, both tourist and business focused, and hosts the five-star Sheraton Warsaw Hotel & Towers, the city's premium luxury hotel.
Also in central Warsaw and a short walk from the Old Town is the famous Palace of Culture & Science. Here you will find the exclusive Hotel InterContinental Warszawa and also the excellent Sofitel Victoria Warsaw, perched overlooking the Saxon Garden and beautiful Opera House.
The Royal Route in central Warsaw is another of the city's most popular areas, and began life as the prestigious route by which communications were carried between the Old Town and the king's palace. The Royal Route begins at the stunning Castle Square and runs south through streets full of imposing architecture before arriving at Wilanow, King Jan III Sobieski's residence. The Royal Route is home to several types of accommodation, one of the most popular being the Royal Route Residence, a building of luxury apartments surrounded by good restaurants and shops.
Another of Warsaw's fine districts to visit and stay in is King's Walk, reputed to be the city's most elegant street. King's Walk is home to the splendour of Le Royal Meridien Bristol, an extravagant hotel named after an eccentric English Marquis who travelled Europe at the beginning of the 20th century. This is a glamorous and historic part of town to stay and in Le Royal Meridien Bristol is a truly unique hotel in which to enjoy it.
The breathtaking Lazienki Park is another fine area of town in which to stay, where you can find peace, quiet and natural beauty within the confines of the modern city. Here visitors can relax and enjoy the outdoors and stay in the grandeur of the Hyatt Regency Hotel, a newer locale popular with both business and tourist visitors.
In the downtown area of Warsaw you can find a number of more mid-priced, but nonetheless good quality, historical hotels. The Polonia Palace Hotel boasts an original pre-WWII façade and is a throwback to days gone by, while the next door Metropol gives visitors a taste of Warsaw's recent past, being as it is an example of classic Socialist architecture.
Also downtown is the Praga district, home to the authentic-feeling Praski Hotel on the banks of the river; a simple hotel in a great spot, across from the pretty Praski Park, Warsaw Zoo and the beautiful St Florian's Cathedral.
