Hotels on Jeju are mainly concentrated in Jeju City in the north and Seogwipo City in the south, where accommodation can be had in a variety of categories. Most hotels and resorts are placed along the coast and are generally more expensive than the equivalent on the mainland (the Korean peninsular) due to Jeju's heightened holiday status and popularity with Japanese visitors.
Hotels in Jeju generally go from mid-range and up, with many in the international standard and luxury bracket. Some of the best five-star hotels in Jeju include: the Grand Hotel Jeju and Pacific Hotel Jeju in Jeju City; the Lotte Hotel Jeju in Seogwipo City; the Paradise Hotel Jeju at Seogwipo Beach; and the Shilla Jeju within the Jungmun Resort Complex. The Oriental Hotel Jeju and Ramada Plaza Hotel Jeju both reside in the busy thoroughfare of Tap-Dong in Jeju City and are also right up there.
The Travellers Hotel in Jeju City, the Royal Hotel Jeju in Shin-Jeju, and the KAL Seogwipo Hotel Jeju in Seogwipo City are excellent four-star places, and there are also many good three-star hotels in Jeju. There are also popular international chains, like the Hyatt Regency, although of the very best, the Shila Jeju in the Jungmun Resort Complex takes some beating, with its substantial cliff-top gardens.
Most of the hotels in Jeju can be found in Jeju-si, or Jeju City (north), and in Seogwipo City down in the south of the island. You will find the very best accommodation at these two spots, with Seogwipo generally having newer, flashier resorts out of the two. Cheaper hotels can also be found in these cities. Other popular areas to stay in Jeju include Shin-Jeju and Tap-Dong in Jeju City, and in Seogwipo Beach and Hamdeok Beach.
Jeju also has a load of condo-style pensions and private residence lodging (minbak) at the beaches and in out of the way places such as remote fishing villages. You will generally have a better experience in the south than the north if you are after a more secluded stay as it is more sparsely populated.
Many people also choose to camp in Jeju and there are loads of designated camping sites in various locations around the island, both at the coast and inland. You'd be better off staying inland if you are into hiking although the island is not that big and you are never far from anywhere.
