Jakarta - Indonesia

There is a huge gap between Jakarta's standard and mid-range hotels and its top of the range places, both in price and quality. There are loads of hotels to choose from, however, and you will have no trouble finding fancy five-star luxury in the city centre. Book Jakarta hotels online to save even when seeking high end accommodation.

The top hotels in Jakarta lose themselves with their pricing, although prices are still cheaper than in capitals in the West. Many top Jakarta hotels cater primarily to business travellers and are generally in a class of their own.

The Grand Hyatt Jakarta and the Ritz Carlton Jakarta Pacific Place are the top of range and come with fantastic facilities and service as with any world class hotel anywhere in the world. The Hotel Ibis Slipi and the Hotel Arcadia Jakarta are also up there but are cheaper than the Hyatt and Ritz and also located near shopping and sights.

There are many places to stay in Jakarta depending on your disposition. Central Jakarta (Jakarta Pusat) features the bulk of the city's attractions and shopping and is the place to be based for convenience. The National Monument, Presidential Palace, and Mangga Dua shopping centre are all in this area. Jalan Jaksa has a thicket of mid-range hotels in central Jakarta while the many streets coming off it have more upscale options.

West Jakarta (Jakarta Barat) is another excellent area to have a room, boasting Jakarta's old Dutch enclave and numerous attractions. Chinatown, loads of museums and galleries, and some great shopping and nightlife can also be found in West Jakarta.

North Jakarta (Jakarta Utara) has a few upscale hotels and is home to the fabulous Ancol Bayfront City, where you can have access to the revered Thousand Islands region. The Kelapa Gading shopping centre is also in North Jakarta.

South Jakarta (Jakarta Selatan) is a pricey area to be based in Jakarta, with its affluent residential areas and sports complexes. It also comes with high-end shopping malls and a myriad of good hotels, restaurants, and pubs.

East Jakarta (Jakarta Timur) isn't the best place to be in the Indonesian capital, but it does have many cheaper hotel options for those on a budget. It is somewhat of an industrial area but also has some worthwhile attributes including the Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, the Cibubur camping ground, and the Utan Kayu art community. East Jakarta is also home to Halim Perdanakusuma Airport.
