Nice has a reputation for drawing wealthy visitors and its hotels reflect this. Yet over the years the city's accommodation has developed to cater to a broader range of tourists and today everything from cosy bed and breakfasts up to five-star glamour can be enjoyed.

One of the city's most popular places to stay is along Promenade des Anglais which overlooks Nice's pebbly shores, but many prefer the old world feel of the Old Town (Vieux-Nice) or the modern character of the city centre. The city centre, Masséna, offers further accommodation choices as well as green spaces in which to escape the bustle. Shopping aficionados will love the easy access to Avenue Jean-Médecin, where the city's top shopping can be found. The five-star Atlantic Hôtel offers the ultimate in elegance in this district.

The port area is unique in that it feels more like a small town than part of a big city. Seafood lovers will not want to miss the fresh pickings on offer in the restaurants here while antique fans can peruse the stores housing hard-to-find treasures. The vistas here may not be of the beach, but the moored boats, million-dollar yachts and ferries make for excellent gazing. Hotels here tend to be mid-range.

If you prefer to stay away from the crowds, fashionable Cimiez with its Belle Époque architecture, Roman ruins and artistic heritage is an appealing choice, as are Mont-Boron and Mont-Alban. All three districts offer superb views of the city and a limited but exclusive selection of hotels.

If you are in Nice on business, Arénas lies close to the airport and caters to corporate guests with modern hotels such as Novotel and Sofitel. Promenade du Paillon is often host to conferences and also makes a suitable lodging spot for business travellers.
