The Danish capital lives up to its reputation for quality in the hotel stakes, with everything on the table from youth hostels right up to five-star luxury in the city centre. The city has everything from a Radisson and a Hilton in the best areas to popular independent hotels housed in converted 18th and 19th century industrial buildings.
Copenhagen has loads of big name hotels in all the important areas of the city, including Le Meridien Copenhagen, Hotel Sofitel Copenhagen Plaza, Radisson SAS Copenhagen, Grand Hotel Copenhagen, and Hilton Copenhagen Airport Hotel. Facilities and services at all of these hotels are superb. The Radisson SAS Royal is probably at the top of the heap due to its locale near Tivoli Gardens.
If you are looking for a cheaper Copenhagen hotel, yet want to retain the high standards of a top-end facility, there are many independent swish Swedish hotels as well as chain hotels to choose from. The likes of the Copenhagen Strand, the Copenhagen Admiral Hotel, and the Hotel Christian IV are all in the city centre and are very well priced.
The Rådhuspladsen (Town Hall Square) and Tivoli Gardens have the highest profile hotels in Copenhagen. This area is the heart of the city and thus has the most expensive establishments.
Copenhagen hotels around the central train station are also a good bet. Helgolandsgade and Colbjørnsensgade near the train station is one of 19th century façades and has some of the best value hotels in Copenhagen. The area is attractive and safe to boot.
The Nyhavn district is one of the more trendy Copenhagen hotel areas. It used to be home to sailors' bars yet has been totally transformed, and together with the obligatory converted 200-year-old canal-side buildings makes for a great place to stay.
The southern harbour area in the west of Copenhagen is a relatively new area in town with many new and posh hotels like the Copenhagen Island Hotel and the Marriott. The promenade and the shopping are the best things about this area of Copenhagen.
Top hotels at Copenhagen Airport include the onsite Transfer Hotel; the Hilton Copenhagen Airport Hotel, near Terminal 3; the nearby Copenhagen Airport Hotel; and many other top hotels within easy driving distance.
May to September is the high season and significant discounts can be had in the winter when the Tivoli Gardens shut up shop.
