Brno is gaining momentum as a tourism destination, shedding its undeserved reputation as an over-industrialised city. There are hotels to suit every taste and budget, ranging from five-star luxury establishments to quaint bed and breakfasts. There are even a few Communist-era hotels that have joined the modern brigade while hanging onto a hint of that staunch, bygone atmosphere.
Most of Brno's hotels are found in the city centre, within walking distance of the major sites. The nicest views are over the city parks or grand sites like Spilberk Castle. Tourists can also base themselves in the countryside along the shores of an outlying lake. The city centre can still be reached in just a few minutes' drive.
There are several hotels just east of Spilberk Castle. This is one of the most scenic areas to stay, and guests can enjoy strolling along the pedestrian avenues or through the park as well as views of the hilltop castle. Hotel Slavia and the Best Western Premier International are both found here.
Not far from Spilberk Castle, Petrov Hill is another premier location. The main attraction here is the Cathedral of Sts Peter and Paul. Housed in a charming 16th century building, the Hotel Royal Ricc is a leader in this area. It features well-appointed rooms, a sophisticated wine bar and attentive staff.
Other popular lodging districts include an area north of the city centre near Osvobození Park. The Hotel Continental is the most popular choice in this area. This is one of the few hotels built under the Communist regime long before the boon of tourism. Guests in this vicinity can reach the city in just a few minutes' walk while enjoying a hint of seclusion and fresh area.
Further north of the city centre is another lodging district. Bobbycentrum is a luxury hotel that opened here long ago and continues to be a key player in Brno. Guests can walk to the city centre in less than half an hour. Bobbycentrum is a city unto itself, with tennis courts, car wash facilities, a bowling alley and even a football stadium.
Another convenient option for visitors is to stay near the central bus and railway stations. Connecting from the station to the hotel is straightforward, and onward travel is painless. The Grandhotel Brno sits here and offers large rooms and an all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast. The Grandhotel also operates a casino.
The Hotel Santon is a nice resort option for those looking to stay outside of town. It's only a few miles from the city centre, but enjoys plenty of seclusion. The best rooms enjoy views over the adjoining lake.
