Siem Reap's tourist infrastructure has developed enormously in the last few years to deal with the increase in visitor numbers. A number of chain hotels are moving into the city to deal with this demand and these include luxury establishments as well as cheaper guest houses.

The centre of the city is home to the most hotels although there is also a selection on the outskirts and in the surrounding countryside. Due to the sudden development, Siem Reap now has an excellent selection of accommodation options ranging from cheap hostels with shared bathrooms to exclusive hotels with all-inclusive facilities.

The price of even the top-end hotels are far less than you would pay in Europe or North America, allowing those who might not necessarily be able to afford luxury in other countries splash out and spoil themselves.

The five-star Angkor Village Hotel has been designed to replicate a traditional Cambodian village and has been built in true Khmer style. There are wooden bungalows among beautiful ponds and lush gardens. Facilities are plentiful and include a spa, pool, restaurant, bar and exceptional service.

Other top quality hotels include the Raffles Grand Hotel D'Angkor, one of the city's oldest hotels, which was originally built by the French. Le Meridien Angkor with its impressive facilities and the newest hotel in the city, Hôtel de la Paix, are other choices. As well as these upmarket hotels there are also many mid-range options and budget establishments located in different areas of the city.

If you want to stay central in the city, the Siem Reap district offers the best choice of accommodation as well as the most amenities such as restaurants and bars. It is also very cultural, with a number of temples and museums. It is developing very fast, but none of its old charm is being lost in the process.

The Angkor Thom district is the district surrounding the UNESCO World Heritage site, Angkor Wat, and offers a wide range of accommodation which is perfect for those looking to spend a few days exploring the famous temple complex. This district is great for families as there are many mid-range hotels and it is less hectic than the city centre itself.

Outside of the main tourist areas, the Banteay Srei district is located in the northwest of the city and surrounds the 10th century Cambodian temple complex of the same name. There are not as many hotels in this district as in others, but there is still a selection and those looking for mid-range hotels will find a good choice.
