Brussels - Belgium

Brussels is one of the world's main centres of business and politics, and this Belgian city has the accommodation to handle even the most high-profile guests. Nearly all the hotels in Brussels hover in the expensive realm, and most are completely booked every weekday of the year.

Weekends are actually the best time to find vacancies and reduced rates, but even modest mid-range hotels are quite expensive, reflecting the nature of this international city's clientele.

Métropole is a landmark hotel dating back more than a century. It's right in the heart of Brussels and has retained the splendor of its early era while adding the most modern amenities and comforts. The Conrad Brussels is another luxury legend. It occupies a prime spot on stylish Avenue Louise, and sports huge rooms furnished in impeccable style. The service in both hotels is remarkable.

Though much smaller than the Métropole, Welcome is one of the real gems among the small hotels in Brussels. With only 17 rooms, intimacy is a natural characteristic of this historic building and standards here are exceptionally high. There‘s a lot of history connected to Welcome, and the owner may be willing to tell you more if he's in the mood.

Bristol Stéphanie represents the tonier side of Brussels. It's owned by Norwegians, and their sleek Nordic style is evident everywhere. The design is functional yet simple and elegant. Best of all, it's located on one of Brussels' trendiest shopping streets.

Staying right in the heart of historic Brussels is the preferred choice for most travellers. The hotels in what is referred to simply as ‘the City' are some of the most charismatic and classiest in town. They also have the benefit of location. You can walk to virtually every major attraction, plenty of restaurants, and easily access the transport system.

Bruxelles is a historic district of the city that centres around the Grand Place, an essential hub for socialising and people-watching. This is also a good area to stay if you want to be near the airport. Ixelles and Elsene have some very upscale hotels and are centrally located if you plan to do a lot of sightseeing. These neighbourhoods have an excellent dining and shopping scene all of their own.

The Quartier Louise is one of Brussels' quieter districts, known for being a more local-style environment, rather than one focused on tourism or politics. There are several nice hotels in this district, and the rates are among the lowest in the city. If you want something more authentic Belgian, this district may be right for you.
